The Highways Act 1980 (chapter 66)

We have just a selection of this Act, in the form of an index and a copy of some relevant sections.
Some sections are commented below the text (in grey boxes)

This Act has been heavily amended and extended. Many Amendments relate only to changes of Highway Authority, to include new Unitaries and National Parks.
By virtue of the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994 and the Environment Act 1995, most references to 'local authority' are taken to also include Welsh Council and National Park authorities. By virtue of the National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999 most references to 'the Minister' are taken to include the National Assembly for Wales.

Comment
Note that this latest Highways Act is the product of a long line, carrying forward old legislation; if the structure, language and some of the things dealt with seem a little odd ... they probably made more sense in 1835.
For example, dealing with just who has the responsibility for a bridge approach, where in times past parishes had responsibility for roads, counties for bridges, and some bridges crossed county borders!
